Ride an interface shift to cut effort
When a new way of interacting arrives, ask which step of your loop it makes nearly effortless. Past shifts (graphical screens, web search, phones, image feeds) made niche behaviors mainstream; arriving early on a new platform and then building owned triggers fast can set the lead.
Plain label: new-interface opportunity scanAlso known as: interface change, enabling technology, nascent behavior, new platform, AI assistant surface, widgets
How it works
Use of a behavior rises sharply when a new interface removes most of its effort, sometimes with no new core technology. Mapping each emerging surface (assistants, chat, widgets, wearables) to the trigger, action, reward and investment steps shows where a rival could make your loop feel slow, or where you could leap ahead.
How to build it
- B2B
- Expose the core action inside the AI assistants or chat tools customers already work in, so it runs without opening the app.
- Mobile
- Ship a widget, lock-screen or watch action for the single most repeated task.
- Web
- A browser extension that brings the action to the page where the need comes up.
What can go wrong
- Porting the whole product instead of the one action that benefits.
- Chasing a new surface before the core loop retains anyone.
Pairs well with
- Measure the effort saved with the step benchmark.
- Secure owned triggers quickly on the new platform.
