Evergreen creation for veterans
Give veterans tools to create, combine and share, so their creativity keeps producing new experiences without the team shipping endless content. Chou ties the early fade of most games to missing Endgame design, and names creative, strategic systems as the main remedy.
Plain label: user creativity that renews the experienceAlso known as: Evergreen Content, Evergreen Mechanics, user-generated content
How it works
Creative play (CD3) is both empowering and intrinsic, Chou's 'golden corner', so it lasts where rewards and novelty fade. Timeless games endure because strategy keeps them fresh, and products can borrow this with builders, editors and template galleries. Evergreen content still needs a renewing source of challenge, since a creative loop with a stale prompt pool decays. Creation costs attention, so it belongs in later phases, not onboarding.
Evidence warning
The 2-8 month lifespan for games without an Endgame is Chou's observation (grade D), not a measured benchmark.
How to build it
- B2B
- A template gallery where power users publish and others duplicate, crediting the creator.
- Web
- Remixable projects and a 'creation of the week' spotlight.
- Mobile
- User-made challenges or routes that others can attempt.
What can go wrong
- Creation tools pushed during onboarding.
- Creations that cannot be saved or shared.
- A creative loop with no renewing challenge.
Pairs well with
- Pair with veteran roles (GT#61 as a veteran role).
- Feed a content-renewal pool (GT#73).
